The best safes for rifles and shotguns are both reliable and affordable. I’ve tested and ranked the most popular options for the money. Here are hands-on reviews.

1. VAULTEK RS800i - Most Advanced Heavy-Duty Biometric Safe

best gun safes

Credit: Amazon.com

Highlight: Comes equipped with a full deck of additional accessories.

Helpful review: "What I like most about this safe, and the reason it’s my all time favorite, is simply that it’s not your average flimsy lock box. This Vaultek is an actual SAFE. It doesn’t take up a lot of space, which means it will easily fit anywhere. How many guns can you fit in it? It has room for my AR-10, Mini-14 and shotgun, plus multiple handguns. You could probably fit 6 rifles comfortably: 5 inside and another on the door. Keep in mind that with a shelf in this safe, it does limit the height of the firearm you can keep inside.
INSTALLATION:
Installation all around was a very simple process. I secured this safe to an interior wall in the front room of my workshop, which is also where customers and guests sort of hang out and around. This gives me a great place to store some of my latest tactical projects without having to bring folks into my back room or to where my main firearm storage is located. I used 3 of the holes and manufacturer-provided 1.5” screws to secure the safe directly into a stud. I like how on the inside the holes are covered up with a little plate, so it just gives a neat and clean appearance by not seeing the screwheads from the inside.
SETUP:
The first thing I was very pleased to discover is that you can set up and use BOTH a custom code AND your fingerprint. I have a different gun safe that offers both unlocking functions, but I discovered that after I set the code, when I set my fingerprint it voids out the code function. With this Vaultek, that is not the case. You can always open the safe with either function.
You can add up to twenty unique fingerprints to allow access to this gun safe by multiple users, if you wanted to, without compromising your master code. You can then go online and delete individual fingerprints, thereby restricting access.
The instructions are very simple and easy to understand when setting up any part of this gun safe, from battery installation to the code and fingerprints. It was in all honesty the easiest electronic device I have ever set up. No kidding!
One of the features I like most about it is how there’s no opening lever. Once you input your code or fingerprint the door will pop open while simultaneously activating an interior light. Likewise, when the door is pushed closed it automatically locks the door. Another cool feature is the LCD display. It illuminates when it detects your motion – making it easy to input your code or get your finger on the biometric reader.
BATTERY:
This Vaultek operates off one rechargeable lithium-ion battery. The display has a meter showing the battery life, which isn’t common with other battery-operated gun safes. To recharge the battery there is a port at the bottom of the safe on the right side so you can just plug it in, and you are done.
WI-FI CONNECTIVITY APP:
Setting this baby up with the App on your smartphone or website allows you to monitor functions and features with ease. I mentioned that the Nano key operates via Wi-Fi but that is just the beginning. Through the App you can get info and alerts to such things as: when the safe has been opened, if the keypad or fingerprint reader have been tampered with, battery power level, etc. Moreover, living in Georgia, I appreciate the fact that I can also monitor the temperature and humidity of this safe from my smartphone. I can even remove certain users' fingerprints from the access roster without removing all authorized users. The App even notifies you if you have left your safe open.
CUSTOMIZATION:
Customization is the big winner for this Vaultek! The back wall and the inside of the door are designed with perforated mounting boards. This design would allow you to adjust the configuration and achieve any personalized setup you may want.
Options include accessories such as a: full or half width (of the safe) shelf, twin handgun racks, 8-slot handgun magazine rack, 4-slot AR magazine rack, single magazine rack, barrel mounts and adapters, spring-loaded AR mount that secures around the rear stock. There are also 2 and 3 handgun holsters and other configurations of handgun and magazine racks and holsters.
NANO KEY:
This gun safe comes with what is called a “Nano Key,” which, once paired with the safe, lets you open the safe remotely. This is paired using Bluetooth, so the effective range is really the range of your WIFI. This could be highly important if you find yourself needing to retrieve an item quickly when seconds may matter. Personally, I set this Nano key up in the opposite corner of the room from where I installed the safe, not for any particular tactical advantage, but simply for a little WOW factor when I want to access the safe to show off a firearm.
ALL IN ALL:
Let me point out again that this is the most heavy-duty rifle safe I’ve ever owned. It's incredibly tough and rugged. It has Vaultek's most advanced anti-theft protection. AND - Vaultek offers unparalleled customer service. So as far as I am concerned, this baby is a winner. I highly recommend it to all my friends and neighbors." — David P. McGillivray

2. Barska - Upgraded DOJ-Approved 8-Rifle Safe

best gun safes

Credit: Amazon.com

Highlight: Features an upgraded fingerprint reader.

Helpful review: "Despite the dimensions given elsewhere in the description, the dimensions of the 9-11 rifle cabinet as delivered are: 17.71"W x 14.71"D x 57.08"H, with the door is on the front side which is 17.71". The cabinet is reasonable gauge steel to keep chiidren out, but a hatchet or ax will make short work of either side or the back of the cabinet. The back of the safe has two pre-drilled holes for mounting to the wall, but new holes are easily drilled. The lock is acceptable (requires 4x AA batteries) and works with key and the default combo of 1-2-3-4-# (but you can change it). Instructions are weak, but the lock also says it supports biometric fingerprints which I have not yet tested. Two keys for the main door, and two keys for the little interior compartment (different key than the main door) are each numbered, but I am told that the company does not provide replacements, so plan accordingly. The cabinet interior has only a felt liner, so there is no fire insulation and therefore no fire protection rating. The absence of insulation means there is more room inside. However, 11-12 rifle capacity is laughable, more like 4-5 rifles. The provided rifle rack is almost useless, but is easily removed by four screws on the bottom of two non-removeable metal flanges 6.25"x1" on either side of the cabinet. Measure the width of your rifles and make your own rack accordingly. The provided light in the door is tiny (only four LEDs), so plan on adding lights. In my opinion, the main benefit of this cabinet is its light weight (says 115lbs), which makes it possible for a one-man wrangle up stairs, but moving it with a second person would be more safe." — Jack E. Biederman
Trending review: "The package looked really bad when it arrived, but I was pleased to see that it was mostly the outside box that was torn up. The paint and lock were 100% scratch free, though it appears that a small crack in the paint may have resulted from the installation of the internal lock box (or some kind of pressure exactly on that spot). Because it is completely lined, interior dimensions are smaller than the total dimensions, so a 50" air rifle with scope just barely fit in under the locking top cabinet. Because of that rifle I can't use the removable shelf. The flanges of metal where the shelf can be used are attached to the wall of the safe, but they could be cut off or bent down if one feared scratches. I agree that the instructions that came with the safe for setting up fingerprints were way too brief, and a little confusing, but I got it to work within a few minutes. The four pre-cut holes for wall attachment are set a few inches away from the edge of the safe, making it unlikely that the safe will be able to bolt to two wall studs a standard 18" apart. I read all the reviews of this brand of safe/cabinet and was concerned about the thickness of the metal used. I was very pleased at the strength and weight of the metal. In terms of just a person with no tools, this safe/cabinet would just laugh at a person trying to kick the door in. The way the door is recessed, it is pry-resistant. There are no visible seams showing where the walls may be vulnerable. For what I paid it exceeded my expectations. The reason I keep calling it a safe/cabinet is that I feel a safe implies at least quarter-inch metal walls and perhaps some fire insulation. But to call this just a cabinet misses the mark, as it is very substantial. Once it is mounted to the wall, you will want to add some bumpers to reduce the clanky sounds that opening and closing the door make, or perhaps some seals to reduce air transfer in and out. If you seal it you will want to get some dehumidifier packs to keep interior moisture away from your guns." — Bryan Pearson

3. KAER - Long Gun Safe with 180-Degree Full Access Door

best ar15 gun safes

Credit: Amazon.com

Highlight: Stores long guns up to 51 inches.

Helpful review: "Overall I am extremely happy with this purchase. I decided I needed a big enough safe for 3-5 guns to expand my collection, but I didn't want anything too big. This safe was the perfect size for me. It comes with adjustable shelves so I can accommodate them based on my needs. The inside is made of carpet to protect the firearms from scratches. I really like that you can set up a combination and have a lock and a key if you are more traditional, or as a backup plan. The material is strong and heavy duty. And this is great for keeping away the kids and avoid accidents. Satisfied and highly recommended this product." — Tania Willies
Trending review: "This gun safe is exactly what I needed. It arrived a day early - via TBA Transport Service, not FedEx, USPS or UPS. They were fast, courteous, and found my address, which isn't easy. Unpacking the safe was a breeze.... cut away the bottom of the box and lift it off. The keys, and the electronic lock work perfectly. I bolted it to the wall and floor, and it's solid as a rock. By the way if you're having trouble finding the mounting holes when you're bolting the safe down, shine a flashlight on the wall behind the safe. The light will shine through the interior felt, and the holes will light up like beacons. Inside, I have a 40" over and under, (20GA shotgun and 22GA rifle all in one) standing upright in the rifle area, plus the Smith & Wesson M&P 12 home defense shotgun. Perfect fit. Also, I'm storing three handguns in protective pouches lying on the shelf. I couldn't get them to stand upright, even with the foam barrel holder in place. But hey, no worries. Also, the two smallest guns will - barely - fit in the door holster. But again, that's ok. The 3 ammo shelves on the door hold one box each... but if you stand up the ammo boxes, you might fit two on each shelf. I have my other ammo boxes stacked on the bottom, to the side of the over-and-under. I am delighted. This safe is awesome. But again, I'm using it for 3 handguns (I keep my 4th out of the safe), one somewhat compact over-and-under, and one really compact bullpup. If I had more firearms I'd need a bigger safe. But this one is perfect for my needs. Finally - what a bargain, especially including free Prime shipping!! Wow!!" — David L. Berry
Reassuring review: "This safe is perfect for someone with 1 long gun with an optic, and maybe a couple of handguns. My long gun needed to be placed in at an angle since it has an optic and a lighting attachment. Also, my Glock 19 DOES NOT fit in the holster that’s built into the door. So I keep it on the shelf above. That said, there's PLENTY of space for ammo on the shelving units and on the bottom near the buttstock. I wouldn’t recommend this for anyone with a large optic attachment on their rifle or shotgun. I also wouldn’t recommend this safe for anyone with multiple long guns. You would be able to fit in a smaller hand gun or small revolver in the holster on the door, but it would need to be smaller than a glock19. The quality of the safe is what you would imagine for a $300 dollar safe. The quality is definitely acceptable, but this is NOT a premium safe by any means. Will it keep your firearms safe and people out of it? Absolutely! For our home, it’s perfect. Fits well in the closet and I’m very happy with it." — Phil Burke

4. Atripark - Fireproof Fingerprint Gun Safe for 10 Rifles

Top-rated: 571 ratings

best ar15 gun safes

Credit: Amazon.com

Highlight: Comes with 3 removable shelves.

Helpful review: "Item arrived early. VERY well packaged with 3/4 inch thick cardboard full side wrap, top and bottom cardboard box caps, metal and cardboard corner guards, heavy duty stapled outer box, heavy duty plastic straps, and foam spacer blocks. Very little damage to cardboard. NO damage to item. Relatively easy to open.
Not really a thick "safe" or a thin metal "cabinet" but in between. Like a solid heavy-duty locker with a safe-like door.
Good overall weight but not "heavy". Solid walls with little, if any, flex. Hinge is smooth.
Smooth handle and lock mechanism. 5 bolts engage smoothly. 3 bolts on the side, 1 on top and 1 on bottom of door. A little play in handle but seems normal, solid and consistent action for open and close.
Door opens about 125 degrees. Thickness of door limits opening to maybe 8 inches.
Nice look and proportions. Totally accurate dimensions. Pictures on page are not consistent...third one is most accurate.
Electronic keypad is good. 4 AA batteries not included. Buttons are easy to press and responsive. Beeps when pressed. Setting code is simple. Lights indicate batteries need changing. External battery pack to access safe if batteries die.
Alarm sounds if code is failed 3 times, or if handle is shaken/jiggled, can be disarmed with code.
Comes with good barrel style auxiliary keys that open lock easily, a velcro orange pouch that holds keys, 4 bolts and washers and nuts for secure installation, and hex key for removing the plate that hides the keyhole/and i suppose install the support bolts.
Does not tip when door opens but bolts are clearly a good idea. Does not wobble.
The shelf hooks and rests on metal cleats, and stays put so it doesn't "need screws" but there are holes for them. The shelf has plenty of room for some ammo and/or a pistol or other small accessories. If you only have 8 guns you can store stuff on the side in the main compartment also.
Nothing is carpeted but the bottom and it's very thin. I used a foam block from packaging to rest stocks on temporarily so the shotgun recoil pads don't deform. It also leans the guns back into the foam barrel rests better and provides a more balanced support for the stocks so they don't pivot. Another reason a smaller locker would fail - the 11-inch depth is needed for that balance. Barrel rest foam is well adhered to wall and a metal cleat and perfectly suitable for the job. I will likely pad other parts, like the edge of the door frame to prevent knocking guns during access and storage.
BOTTOM LINE:
Exactly what I wanted/expected. For the money, this is excellent quality, will last years, protect guns, and deter all humans not carrying sledgehammers or power tools intent on getting in. Price is really unbeatable for what you get. I looked at TONS of safes and cabinets...very glad this came though." — Brian Zaccardi

5. Steelwater - Heavy-Duty Fireproof Safe for 18 Guns

Top-rated: 145 ratings

best safes for long guns

Credit: Amazon.com

Highlight: 12 gauge solid steel body with 12 gauge composite style door.

Helpful review: "My wife was stressing out about the guns in the house because we had a child. So I bought this one, and I couldn't be happier with it. It’s a good looking safe and it stores my riffles, ammo and pictures.
However, it holds nowhere near 18 guns. I had it bolted into the floor and built into my wall. It holds 2 AR-15's with scopes, 2 shotguns, 1 .22 rifle, 1 .308 rifle with scope, several pistols. This is about all it will hold, maybe 1 or 2 more. The guns with scopes are the ones taking up a lot of room. If we’re just talking about long guns with no scopes, I’d say it could fit maybe 10.
Everyone who sees it comments on how rugged and serious it looks. My brother-in-law was taken back by it. He actually laughed when he saw me open it for the first time because he never really saw a safe like this one.
I keep mine out of sight so people don't get curious and wonder what I am keeping in here.
As mentioned above, I bolted it to the floor and wall so it ain't going anywhere. The concrete anchor kit was missing from the delivery package. After emailing Steelwater about it, they quickly responded and sent the kit over.
By the way, the first one came dented so we refused to accept it from the trucking company. Steelwater sent a new one immediately. Awesome customer service. So buy this safe if you have 10 long guns! You will love it.
Couple tips for first-time buyers like myself:
1. Gun Safe labels are well-marked on the package. Be prepared to transport it inside quickly if you don't plan to show it off to the neighbors.
2. I find an appliance dolly very handy when moving this monster.
3. After unboxing the package, don't panic about the missing handles of the spoke. They are stored inside the safe!
4. I got the safe with the spoke (you can customize). Rotating the spoke when opening the safe should be easy. If you feel something is blocking the spoke from rotation, try to slightly rotate backward (counter-clockwise).
All in all, I have to say this was a great buy. The customer service is amazing. A friend of mine went to Lowes to get some different concrete anchors. He forgot what size he needed and called Steelwater while shopping at the store. They actually pointed him in the right direction." — David Vaughan

6. Barska Smart - Compact Biometric Safe for Rifles and Shotguns

Top-rated: 2,101 ratings

best gun safes

Credit: Amazon.com

Highlight: Biometric fingerprint feature.

Helpful review: "I read the mixed reviews on this safe, and I admit to being a little nervous when I ordered it. Weighing in at 66lbs, it isn't exactly something I'd want to try to ship back if I didn't like it
I'm pleased to say that I couldn't be happier with the purchase. The unit arrived in excellent condition. I did not see any signs of rust, dents, or other damage that were mentioned in some of the older reviews. And best of all the keys were outside the cabinet so no issues getting it set up & programmed.
The other reviews are correct, this unit is quite tipsy before you mount it - to the point that we had a bit of difficulty setting testing out the location. But that is not a big deal & is to be expected on a compact unit like this.
I did invest quite a bit of time & money "dressing it up", following some recommendations by another reviewer & going off on my own a bit.
I lined the inside with gray, adhesive-backed carpet squares from our local home improvement center to protect the firearms from metal-on-metal contact. Some have loosened up a bit, so with the benefit of hindsight I'd have hit them with some spray adhesive instead of relying solely on the adhesive from the squares.
HELPFUL TIPS:
- Magnetic, battery powered LED light with motion sensor. Hang it on the underside of the shelf with the magnetic mount, it turns on automatically when the door is opened.
- Eva Dry E-500 Wireless Dehumidifier. Fits on the top shelf; absorbs humidity. When it gets saturated you can plug it in to 'recharge' it. In retrospect I probably should have bought the unit that is one-size smaller as this one barely fits & takes up a lot of room in the safe.
- Rack'Em 3 Pistol Holster In-Safe Handgun Rack. Allows you to hang some larger handguns in the safe if you're not using all the space for rifles
This is a small safe. However, by using some creativity & accessories I was able to store 3 rifles & 3 hand guns inside with no troubles. One shotgun was a tall as the entire safe, so it had to set sidewise in front of the shelf. But no harm done. I can see where pistol grips, scopes, and other add-ons would challenge the space.
The reviewers that observed this is more of a locker & less of a safe are also correct. It's a great choice for keeping guns safe from kids. It'll slow down a thief, probably won't help much in a fire.
The biometric works great; I took several scans of several fingers (it'll store up to 120 impressions) and have had no problems with access.
In summary this is a great choice for the average person who wants to keep their firearms organized & protect their family from accidents. If you're a collector or have a larger collection you probably need something a little more elaborate." — John Taylor

7. RPNB - Rifle Security Cabinet with Separate Pistol Section

best gun safes

Credit: Amazon.com

Highlight: 5 live-door bolts and seamlessly welded pry-proof steel body for the ultimate prevention against break-ins.

Helpful review: "This is my first time buying a rifle safe but second one for this brand. It was packed well and arrived undamaged. It should keep things secure except for determined thieves. I drilled holes in the bottom of each corner to secure it to the floor. The wall mount holes through the back didn't provide enough holding strength. I recommend the manufacture either just make the compartment at the inside top an open shelf OR at least have a locking metal door. The plastic parts including the battery compartment are a bit of cheap though. Overall, for a 100lbs gun safe for less than $400 bucks, I think it's good value for the money." — Kaleb Carroll
Trending review: "We wanted a basic gun locker designed solely to store weapons when we were out of the house, because we have kids. This thin-walled safe will not keep a moderately determined thief out, but it keeps things away from any curious preteen friends of our kids. We are able to store a 20ga, 12ga, AR with scope and mag, all side by side, slightly at an angle. Ammo boxes stacked up nicely on the back wall. The small upper safe holds two (sometimes three) semi auto pistols and mags. The programing instructions were a little hit and miss but we got there. Overall, a good buy. Shipping box was dinged up and it took 4 weeks to get here, so fair warning. Not in a hurry? You're all good." — Teri FL
Reassuring review: "The best quality for the price. Don't use rechargeable batteries though! NIMH don't hold enough voltage and the lock will not release. RPNB customer service was great, fast to respond, and they helped me solve this issue quickly. Use ALKALINE batteries as directed, a good brand name, and you won't have any problems. I looked at other security cabinets in this price range, and they were really crappy with bolted together Sheetmetal and flimsy locks and hinges. Overall it one looks really nice, is fairly strong, and will keep curious kids and smash and grab burglars out. MAKE SURE to bolt this to the wall or floor, or both! There are pre-drilled holes in the back and bottom for this. I had to buy my own concrete anchors as the ones provided weren't long enough to reach through the drywall to the concrete block. I did use wood spacers behind the drywall to keep it from getting crushed while tightening the anchors. I also notched out my baseboards to fit this flush against my closet wall." — Brad M.

8. Langger V - Upgraded Electronic Rifle Safe

best gun safes

Credit: Amazon.com

Highlight: Comes with pre-drilled holes and mounting hardware.

Helpful review: "If your looking for a bank vault to store your weapons, this isn't the safe for you. Save your money and add a grand or two. However, if like me you needed a 300 dollar option for 5+ firearms to secure them, then look no further. The door is sturdy. It comes with concrete lag bolts for bottom and back, a removable shelf and lockable storage. I was able to put 2 boxes of shotgun shells, 10 boxes of 22, 3 boxes of 38, 3 boxes of 9mm, 7 boxes of 556, and 2 boxes of 762, plus two loaded 30 round magazines in the lock box. It's stacked like Tetris but it all fit. The removable shelf came with a pistol foam rack allowing for up to 5 pistols. Below you can place 6 rifles. My longest, a 16g crack barrel would not fit below the shelf. But there is a barrel holder on the right side and enough space in front of the shelf for it to stand. My only issue is that I had to Remove the optics from one of the rifles. Overall, for the price point, this is the best safe on the market. No assembly other than placing a removable shelf. The external power pack is a nice touch plus the emergency keys gives you two ways to access in case batteries die. Setting combo was easy." — Kevin Delgado
Trending review: "We needed to get a gun safe with a toddler in the house. After searching and debating on different ones, we decided on this one. The size was perfect as we needed one that would fit in the closet. This one fits perfectly! Luckily we didn’t need to store a ton of guns, so this one was more than enough space for what we needed. If you have a lot of guns, this might be a tight squeeze (especially when it’s full). There’s not a ton of room to move guns around or anything. The extra lockbox inside was a nice addition. It’s a great place to keep other valuable items or some ammo. It is a different key than the main door emergency key. The safe comes with the felt pieces and the shelf, as well as the gun supports. I love that everything looks neat and organized. We did buy an additional support for the shotgun so it could stand in front of the shelf. We used a magnetic one and it works perfectly. My husband plans to make a few modifications and upgrades to better suit our needs, one of them being more light. I placed a motion sensor light bar in there for the mean time and it provides a decent amount of light to help illuminate everything. We plan to buy a few more, so we can place them beneath the lockbox and the handgun shelf. Overall this is a great safe! If you need something small and to protect your kids, this is perfect. I wouldn’t quite feel like this is the best one to keep thieves out, though. It would probably be quite easy to get into or to carry away if it’s not bolted to the wall." — Rachelle & Ryan Burton
Reassuring review: "This gun safe is everything I hoped for. Very sturdy AND easy to open & lock except if you are a burglar. The customer service responds quickly. Also a great size to fit 5 or 6 rifles, handguns and accessories (including ammo). I particularly like that it doesn’t take up a lot of room in my very small closet. I anchored mine down very easily with the provided bolts but just in the back and not on the ground, so as not to put holes in my hardwood floors. That was perfectly adequate. I also asked about a door organizer and they sent it for free. That allows me to put even more accessories inside. Unless you have a huge arsenal, this safe is perfect for up to 6 rifles PLUS 8 or so handguns. It also has an extra storage box inside that you can lock and a sturdy shelf. I couldn’t be happier with this gun safe. As much as I order from Amazon, this is only probably the second time where I have taken the time to write a review. This seller doesn’t make claims about their product that are not true. It’s not a fireproof safe, and I suspect that many that claim to be that are not so. It probably offers some protection nevertheless. It is a sturdy gun locker to organize your firearms and keep them safe from burglars and your kids." — Willie Duggan

9. INTERGREAT - Quick Access Safe

Top-rated: 734 ratings

best gun safes

Credit: Amazon.com

Highlight: Door opens to 120°.

Helpful review: "First of all, let me just say that this safe requires mounting. Either floor mounting, or wall mounting. If not, it will fall over when opening the top heavy door. It comes with floor mounting hardware that is easy to install provided you have a concrete bit. For the price, I think this is a great value. We had a small problem with the magnetic lock which required us to use the key instead. The manufacturer immediately sent out a replacement safe at no charge. I Recommend this safe for anyone who needs it to protect your kids from accessing your firearms. It’s pretty lightweight metal, so probably not suitable for anything beyond that. Again, a great safe for home/family use. You won’t find a better value." — Chris Raasch
Trending review: "Safe arrived in good order. Packaging was very solid with no damage. Instructions were easy to follow for combination setting and set-up. Not a heavy duty safe but exactly what I wanted, a quick-access solution for one long gun and one pistol for home defense and child safety. Customer support was very responsive to a question about weight made prior to my purchase. Very appropriate for my need. And it's exactly as described. Comfortably fits 4 rifles. 5 is a tight fit. So keep that in mind! Top compartment fits 3 pistols plus a small amount of ammo or plenty of documents. So overall this one is a great safe." — Kevin Yates
Reassuring review: "Better then expected for the price. Packaged professionally for delivery. Very strong locking mechanism. My only complaint is the weak plastic battery cover (it broke off due to my own negligence and I'm waiting to get a replacement). It would be nice if it had a strap or something like it to secure guns better. If your looking for a good quality 4-rifle (5 crammed) safe, this one WILL be perfect to keep children out!" — Jay Rivera

10. Paragon - Lock & Safe Electronic Rifle Safe

Top-rated: 215 ratings

best gun safes

Credit: Amazon.com

Highlight: Equipped with a LED lock; programmable with a combination of 3-8 digits; runs on 4 AA batteries; comes with 2 manual keys.

Helpful review: "Purchased the safe online from Lowe's site and opted for free shipping. The box was delivered to my porch with no problem, and because the safe is indeed very heavy, me and my wife had hardest time to lift the thing to the second floor, unpack and install it into dedicated place.
After all that was done, I discovered the locking mechanism is defective. The safe is supposed to lock automatically after you turn the handle and locking latch counter-clockwise. It doesn't.
And you cannot lock it back with your passcode. Instead, I succeeded to lock it back, pressing erratically random buttons, turning and shaking the latch and the handle, kicking the door and doing all kinds of magical passes. And all this - each time you need to lock it.
On the Lowe's site the safe is listed under "Fleming supply" brand, but on the manual that came with the safe is appears as "Paragon" brand safe. And there is a link to the support site.
So, I described the problem applied for support using the link. They quickly responded and offered a troubleshooting that included taking apart the door, reaching electronics and pulling out wires - that would 'reset solenoid'. I followed all the instructions and got zero results.
Nothing changed in erratic behavior of the locking mechanism. At that point I was requested to send copy of invoice, which I did. then they suggested to return that safe back to Lowe's, since it was recent purchase. I refused, because it would be major ordeal dragging the unpacked safe with sharp edges down the stairs and back to the car. It would possibly destroy my stairs. And my porch. And the car.
Then they requested from me to send the video of the malfunction, in order to "continue assisting" me. I did, and the next thing was quite unexpected, since I started to believe they are trying to help. They said that they will not provide any further assistance, because they are not makers of the safe.
They said that I needed to contact non-existing mythical 'Fleming Supply' company instead. But wait a minute, isn't it just a name that Lowe's slapped on your safe for marketing purposes? Didn't you verify before that it is a "Paragon" safe that I own? Isn't it that your company name and support link appear the that manual that came with the safe? Really? You couldn't find any good reason to refuse service, so you do it without any reason?
Well, the company contacted me, apologized for the 'error', sent a whole new safe to me without any additional charge, AND said I can keep the old one. I didn't install a new one, didn't even open it yet. But I am so impressed with the good service and support. This is the company to trust." — Chuck Wheeler

Highlight: Includes AA batteries, emergency keys and anchor bolts.

Helpful review: "Reviewing this as a gun cabinet, not a safe. In the pictures the door looks much like a heavy safe door, but it's not. The BOX of the cabinet is sheet metal, as is the door. Arrived in good shape after quick shipping. Instructions are good, and 4 lag bolts are included for securing the safe to the floor or wall. However, bear in mind that the bolts go through sheet metal that can be defeated by just a moderate amount of force. The programmable lock works fine. The locking bolts on the door also work fine, but again, use the sheet metal edge of the door opening to lock against. A crowbar could be used to defeat the door in just a few minutes. Because the sheet metal tends to "clang" when disturbed, I plan to line mine with peel and stick carpet tiles to keep the sound down. Something to think about if you will be using this to quickly and quietly access a firearm for home defense. This cabinet is good for child safety. It will keep young, curious hands off your firearms, but even an amateur burglar could gain access given some time and tools. No fire protection, either. So, as gun cabinets go, this is a good one for its price, but it's not a safe." — R. Ulmer
Trending review: "This honestly exceeded my expectations. It shipped to me in Rhode Island from California (really couldn't have gone farther across the country) and arrived without a scratch. It was tightly packed with foam all the way around and plastic corners for added protection. Everything functions the way it should. Despite the fact that I have not bolted it down yet, the door is not too heavy where it would tumble over when opening (as I've seen other reviews state). I was able to set my own lock code and switch to silent mode on first attempt. I did add lights and a thicker piece of foam to the inside bottom. And no, this is not a bonafide safe, but it will keep the goofballs away from your guns. It can fit an ar15 with scope without turning sideways and a 50" Remington 870 Wingmaster. Still has clearance even with added thicker foam on bottom." — Dave Gabrick
Reassuring review: "I love it when I buy something on Amazon, and when it arrives it is of better than I expected. Based on some reviews, I was surprised by how heavy and solid the safe feels. The door closes with authority, and the five locking bolts (top, bottom, and three on the side) extend about an inch into the frame when engaged. There is plenty of room for five long guns inside, and for a significant supply of ammunition and magazines stacked at the bottom. The small locking interior safe is large enough for several handguns or for other valuables. I had some trouble programming the safe lock, but Ben at customer service for Quicktec was amazing. He responded several times to my emails within minutes, and even forwarded short videos to help me. I'm not very techy. I am very happy with my purchase." — Scott Schultz

Highlight: Improved fingerprint reader.

Helpful review: "I needed a smaller safe for another room in the house, with enough space for some equipment, and quick biometric access. This safe fits the bill perfectly. While it is on the lighter side, I knew I would have to drill a hole for the dryer rod wire, so I went ahead and drilled a few extra holes in the back of the same, and mounted on a backing solid wood board. This made it very sturdy and secure. The space is rough and I installed a door organizer as well, which is also sold here on Amazon. All in all, it was perfect for what I needed. The delivery was quick and right to my front door. The safe is light enough that I moved it inside and had it installed quickly. I "timed" the order, so the delivery would be in a Saturday when I was home and could bring it in fairly quickly after delivery. I still want to install some weather stripping to make the door seal better and reduce the noise when opening and closing." — Tina Campos
Trending review: "This is a great safe and excellent value. The safe arrived well packaged despite the carrier's effort to destroy the outer box, the rest of the protective packaging performed well, no dents, dings or scratches. The biometric feature is excellent. It's easy to program and seems to function as designed. If you do not properly set this up, the default is to accept any fingerprint. So follow the instructions and it will work great. The internal lockbox is an excellent bonus to store some of those smaller valuable items. I purchased this to organize my long guns. While nothing is 100% impenetrable, this will work well to keep children and other visitors out. I did have the need to reach out to the seller. The customer service is excellent. They responded right away and provided a quick resolution. Five Stars for customer service. For this price point the value is excellent!" — Michael Pratt
Reassuring review: "I purchased this item 3 years ago and it's given me great service over this time. The bio reader works perfectly and it was simple to set up. Recently I had an issue with a lost emergency backup key, and I have to say that the vendor was very responsive even though it was my issue, no fault of the product or the brand. The vendor's response to resolve my issue was exceptional. Great Customer Service." — William Gannon
