I review rangefinders for a living, so I speak from experience when I say that these options are both affordable and long-lasting.
FYI, Prices and ratings are accurate as of time of writing.
1. Vortex OpticsĀ - GeoBallistics Razor HD 4000 Yards
Highlight: Illuminated display.
Helpful review: This 4000-yard rangefinder was actually made for folks who want to master the 3000-yard shot. I have never had a problem or mismarked range with the Vortex rangefinder, which has a lifetime warranty. Some shooters at the long-distance range tell me they have hit targets up to 3500 yards, and the accuracy was dead on point. I have read a review that claimed this rangefinder range was accurate to 3800 yards; I can't speak to that one. This rangefinder would be the only one I have ever used that may be accurate to 2100 yards; someday, if I get onto a long-distance range marked off to that many yards, I will try it.
All the rest of the rangefinders I have ever used or reviewed, including the few that had belt hooks, are attached by plastic clips or formed from the same plastic the machine's body is made from. Most rangefinders do not have clips, and some new ones use magnets due to the clip's inherent weakness. Vortex fixed this by building the machine right in the first place. The metal belt clips screws into threaded nuts that are mounded into the body. It uses three Allen head screws, so there will never be a weakness issue.
The most outstanding value of this rangefinder is its ability to calculate the slope and the distance for an extended range. In the West, we are lucky enough to have commercial, county, or impromptu ranges in the desert that have angles to compensate for the shooting dope. ā William Mick

2. Gogogo Sport VproĀ - 1000-Yard Golf Range Finder
Highlight: Slope Switch and internal magnets.
Helpful review: This ranger is a steady resident in my long-range shooting kit. This machine is a golf rangefinder wrapped in camo. Its most vital feature is its ability to find the flag or pins.
This one lives in the long-range kit because of its range pin-finder ability; it just seems to want to do this line of work. I have a neighbor who loves golf, and he has a Garmin Golf Watch. He uses this instead of a rangefinder. Garmin has put in the range distances for each golf course and overlays them for the golfer. I wanted to check how well it works against an actual rangefinder. I sent it to him, and he came home needing a new rangefinder. The golf watch is inaccurate enough to bet money on each hole.
Since Garmin does not have a Gun Watch, I must depend on the Vpro. I pounded in many pegs and tied the surveyor tape to the top to mark the distance. I used a measuring wheel to get the distance right on the money. Using the pin finder on this rangefinder, I got on target and accurately in a hurry.
For the money they want for this machine, it's like cheating. I do have to screw the rangefinder to a small tripod that came with a desktop microphone and look through it so I don't wiggle it around, trying to hold it when lying on the ground.Ā I like how it works by putting it on the tripod, and now I need to learn how to look through it with my left eye so my right eye can look through the small scope. I will run out of room soon and need to mount stuff over the top of me. ā Joel Cruz

3. Bushnell 4x21 - 600-Yard Hunting Rangefinder
Highlight: Perfect match Realtree Camo.
Helpful review: This is the best camo-wrapped rangefinder for archery ever made. Its camo skin will disappear against Realtree camo outfits. This finder claims a 10-yard distance for close game animals, perfect for hunting for tree stands. The finder's long range is 600 yards, so this unit should be the right choice unless anyone is hunting antelope way across the desert landscape.
This rangefinder is marketed as a 600-yard rangefinder. For the most part, I have never seen a review that gives this ringer credit past 200 yards. Again, this is the best archery rangefinder that can specifically work for flipping sticks. For archery, Bushnell is the best. The magnification is set at 4x magnification and works well with glass for deer. At under 100 yards, the 4X magnification can replace a set of binoculars and cut down on gear and weight to haul into the woods.
This rangefinder uses a 9-volt batteryāthe only thing I own other than smoke detectors that still use a 9-volt battery. The great thing about this battery is that it doesn't get lost easily. The hang-up is that the little nickel-size button battery will not fit in my coin pocket. Using the larger battery will make the reticle's brightness and clarity perfect. ā Richard Moore

4. TideWeĀ - 1000-Yard Rechargeable Hunting Rangefinder
Highlight: Straight line distance, horizontal distance, and speed to target.
Helpful review: I love my Nikon binoculars more than any other binoculars I have ever used. This may be some brand loyalty affecting my opinion, but that is what is excellent about views; the only one I need to agree with is my own.
Looking through the viewfinder, the TideWe quality reminds me of my binoculars. The TideWe is not a high-priced unit; it is a high-performing unit. To demonstrate its performance features, this maker uses a magnet to keep the case clasp closed, so there is zero noise from Velcro when I open it to get a range when the critter is close by.
Like other rangefinders I have tried, the range comes up instantly, with no delay. Again, when animals are close, every second counts, along with quiet operation and as little movement as possible. I like to use the constant scanning ability at 6x magnification to seek and find targets. The body of this finder has a very sticky rubber grip on the top and bottom to ensure I do not drop or fumble the unit as I use it in damp conditions.
One thing this unit shows in the view is the battery level, keeping me from being surprised by a dead battery. On top of the battery meter is a charging port to keep the rechargeable batteries that I use topped off. This is a USB-C charging port, so I only need my phone charger. I can take a power pack to top off anything made with this fantastic upgrade. ā Corry Town

5. WOSPORTS H111 ProĀ - 800-Yard Golf Rangefinder
Highlight: Rechargeable batteries.
Helpful review: To this day, this ranger is perfect. I have never had this machine fail me or even range a distance that is not on the money. Better yet, all I have to do is plug it in, and the battery is ready.
This rangefinder gives me the measurements to within one yard or less on every pin, flag, or rock we have used for the last thirty years; it never misses. The H111 claims to range up to 800 yards and does not take credit for distance. This transparency is refreshing in the world of rangefinders; many of them on the market will make a claim much further than they can accurately find. To this day, I have used this to range up to 750 yards at one shoot and was on the money all day; it became the favorite of everyone on the line that day.
Now, the part I love the most is the rechargeability of this unit. I hate depending on batteries for field gear. Even more than that, I hate depending on myself to turn off the stuff I use and not drain the battery sitting in my range gear. On top of being able to recharge this unit, it will also turn itself off, like a coffee pot for those of us growing grey hair.
The optics are good and clear, and there are no complaints about picture quality or display clarity. The size and weight of this unit are very user-friendly; mine came with a great-looking belt carry case. The rangefinder is white and looks sharp on the bench or the range tarp.Ā I know pointing out looks for a piece of gear does not bring much for the usability value, but this thing gets lots of compliments. The other rangefinders that sit next to it get overlooked, so it has to count for something.
This rangefinder will work well on a golf cart or hooked on the golf club bag, or whatever they are called. The attention this will get from other golfers will make anyone happy, and the results from having accurate distances will be even better. I guess it could be worn on a golfer's belt, but that seems like it may get in the way to me but to each their own.Ā For the price, this piece of gear will make a good gift, or, even better, pool some money and use it for the prize for the best score. ā Ryan Albany

6. AOFAR HX-1200T - 1200-Yard Rangefinder For Hunting
Highlight: AI technology supports perfect range finding.
Helpful review: Welcome to the new age of range finding. This unit has a 25mm objective lens, the same objective as my LPVO scope on my AR. This objective gives a great field of view for finding targets and works well in low-light scenarios.
On top of the larger objective lens, the rangefinder is made at 6x magnification. This rangefinder only lacks turrets to replace some rifle scopes. The 6x magnification will let me use this rangefinder instead of my binoculars for locating deer, even across the canyon. The only hang-up with this is the lightweight design, which shows off how unsteady my hands are when using a 6x power optic to scan for the game. If I put this on a tripod or even a monopod, the shaky part would be gone; that is operator error.
This unit is also custom-made for archery. Even though the 1200-yard range is not part of that, this machine has a Hunter Mode function. This will include an arrow drop in the calculationsāhow amazing! This finder claims to range from 5 to 1200 yards. I don't find many rangefinders that will give accurate readings under 25 yards. This finder is irreplaceable for archery or muzzle-loading hunters who may find themselves right over a game trail, and the critter comes out closer than anticipated.
This rangefinder's vast number of features should have a giant price tag. Still, it is priced well compared to other budget-friendly models. I am going to start putting these on the table at the gun shows and see how well they sell to the public and my long-range shooter friends and colleagues. ā Mark Duckworth

7. WOSPORTS H111 - 800-Yard Rangefinder For Bow Hunting
Highlight: Dedicated Bowhunter Mode.
Helpful review: This may be the only rangefinder that I have used that shows yardage in decimal points. That means most will round the yardage to the nearest whole number. This machine will give an exact distance of 28.4 yards. I have not checked to see if the measurements are accurate, as anywhere I have taken this to check the accuracy has the ranges marked to the general yardage (50, 100, 200). This may be the magic if this exact distance is needed for a contractor marking off fence lines or concrete curbing.
This rangefinder will give the angle for horizontal and vertical distance. This cannot be stressed enough for archery and the black powder crowds. For a long-range rifle shot, the angle becomes very important for a good, clean shot and ethical hunting. The last thing any hunter wants to do is hit the animal but miss the clean kill due to not holding correctly for angle compensation.
The H111 uses a focus wheel to get the perfect picture when ranging targets. This unit will range a twig or weed between the shooter and the target, so make sure the target is clearly the main subject, or the firing profile will not be accurate. I have used this one during a snowstorm to see if that would make a difference. Notice I did not say I used this in a blizzard. I like to shoot, but not that much. I have been told that foggy mornings will affect the ability of rangefinders to work. We don't get foggy days in Utah, or not often enough to plan to check functions on things. When I took this to the range in the snowstorm, it did not have any problem ranging the yard markers, and the golf mode pin finder worked just like it was supposed to.
For the best part, this thing sells for about 100 bucks daily. This Ragne finder comes in black and semi-glossy, so it will fit nicely on the golf course for those who do not want to take a camo rangefinder golfing. The zipper pouch that comes with this will look very pleasant on the golf bag or the dashboard of the golf cart. ā George Graham

8. TecTecTec VPRO500Ā - 800-Yard Rangefinder For Golf And Hunting
Highlight: Through the lens display.
Helpful review: I wanted to get a few different rangefinder options and compare them to see which ones were bargains or junk that needed to be called out. I got one of these and took it to the range to work on the long-range flags. I know the distances because I pounded them in myself using a measuring wheel and the GPS location thing I use on the RXR to help folks find me if I get hurt and can't make it out.Ā According to all of these measuring units, the flags are as close as we will ever get.
The VPRO500 hits the measurements every time, from 200 to 700 yards. Like almost all rangefinders, this one suffers from hand-hold wiggle when looking at the farthest ranges. The best part is that the pin finder locks onto the flag and gets the measurements for the shooter.
This unit's fit and feel are very nice, and it seems to fit everyone who has held it. The price is affordable for nearly everyone, and the build quality will last many years. The carrying case shipped with this unit is a hard-sided case to protect the machine. The outer shell is heavy-duty nylon and will have some impressive piping and stitching; it looks great for a piece of gear that needs to be shown off a bit.
Show-off ability does not make it work better. Still, at times, a person needs to throw around a little bling to let the others on the range or course know they are a force to contend with, and at times, that can make a little money, if ya know what I mean. ā Jack Jenkins

9. Gogogo Sport VproĀ - 1000-Yard Range Finder For Hunting
Highlight: Angle Range Compensation (ARC).
Helpful review: I noticed no difference between this machine and my partner's more expensive unit. That is not true. I did see one thing, and that was the price tag. I think he overspent on his by about 200 bucks. Other than the price for the same performance, there are a few things to point out about this rangefinder. The first one is the way it fits in my hand. It feels very familiar and comfortable when I hold it. The buttons to work the machine are easy to reach, for me anyway, and very natural to operate.
This unit comes with a magnet mount built into it. I did not think much about this until I started using it; now, I like having this option. I can use this in my truck to hold the ranger to the hood of my car as I set up and range areas for hunting. Having the magnet keeps the rangefinder from sliding off the hood, which makes less loud swearing later.
My favorite function on this ranger is the slope, which has an easy on/off function. All I have to do is flip the switch on the side of the machine, and the angle compensation meter appears in my view. This makes it very powerful for ranging and making the best hunting plan. With this feature, I am not running through the menu repeatedly; it's just a flip of a switch, and I have my information.
This rangefinder has a golf feature called flag lock or pin lock. This does not have a considerable value for hunting, but it is excellent for long-distance shooting. The rangefinder will find the distance flag just like a pin on the golf course and less time hunting around on the range. ā Phil L. Baker

10. AOFAR HX-700NĀ - 700-Yard Rangefinder For Bow Hunting
Highlight: Continuous Scan Yardage.
Helpful review: Small in size, large in performance. This ranger is simple, not a hack against it; it is the most significant value: simple is easy to learn and operate. The HX-700N has only one lens to keep it clean. Because of this, it is about an inch and a half smaller. This machine will fit in my back pocket or even my shirt pocket. I have seen some hunters keeping their rangefinder on the binocular strap, so it is handy to use, and this small unit will fit there much easier.
I have a high-dollar rangefinder, and it is incredible, but someday, it will fail. I don't want to spend that much again on the same output level as the new world of finders on the market. I think the warranty for my expensive unit expired three years ago, so it will not be covered when this one dies.
This machine is made for hunting and will work on the golf course. I don't know if any available rangefinders on the market won't work on the golf course, but this is a hunting article. My favorite thing about this rangefinder is its size and ability to be carried in my pocket, not on my belt or in a holster.
The 700N can range as close as 5 yards and claims up to 700 yards. This is the highest value for a close-distance hunter or tree stand hunter. The only issue with ranging that close is that the 6x magnification will be too much. But, to get the proper distance to know which pin to use on the bow, I only have to get the ranger on the deer and then take the shot; I am not getting video footage. ā Josiah Ulman

11. TecTecTec ProWildĀ - 540-Yard Rangefinder For Hunting
Highlight: A rangefinder that feels more at home hunting archery than a rifle.
Helpful review: The ProWild is not a long-range hunting rangefinder; it is more at home for archery hunters, which is what it was designed for. This ranger also works excellently hunting other airsoft players by focusing on dialing in close-distance ranges; this is the most significant addition to the archery tackle. The measurements are rock solid when this unit finds a distance within 200 yards. For the airsoft guys shooting the sniper position, this will let them know when the other team is in range, so rounds are not wasted and positions are not given away.
The archery folks don't shoot over 100 yards, or not much over anyway. Getting exact yardage is critical for archery hunters, as that type of hunting is significantly drop compensation dependent. If the rangefinder is inaccurate, the archery hunter will miss the game and ruin the day.
For barely over 100 bucks, this unit is an excellent addition to the hunting pack. I like to keep one of these in the truck when I just want to know how far away a thing is. It sits in the center console and has never had a dead battery.
I know a couple of my wife's real estate buddies have purchased these to estimate yardage for land and write listings and other real estate stuff. Contractors also use the machine to avoid using the measurement wheel or trudging through mud and over and through construction zones.Ā All they have to do is put it to their eye and hit the button; the next thing they do is write down the measurement. ā Trevor Green

12. BIJIA - 650-Yard Laser Rangefinder For Hunting
Highlight: 2-year warranty and simple to use.
Helpful review: This machine came to me in camo and sported an angle compensator as a feature. This finder is a golf unit wearing camo skin. The angle compensator will not give the proper measurements for archery hunting. Still, it will be on the money or close enough for golfing. For shooting uphill, this thing will not do it.
For straight shots, the BIJIA will work on the range for practice all day long. That is where I would use this unit, not take it to the field and never to competition shoots. The measurements read at the exact yardage but are not rounded up. I do not have a way to check the accuracy of the foot, and I don't care to try it anyhow. This machine may be suitable for real estate or contractors to throw in the car to check measurements against county records. For the price, this will replace a measuring wheel, will fit in the pocket, and will not require anyone to walk through the mud and muck.
This unit will give signals by vibration for archery, with no beeps or noises. It is perfect for very silent and stealth-required hunting, like archery and muzzle-loading hunting. Along with a good, maybe not great, camo skin that will keep the hunter well hidden, it is time to send it. The magnified optic will allow the archery hunter to look for game animals and not change between binoculars and the rangefinder. ā Theo Campbell
