Umarex SA10 CO2 Air Pistol: Tested By A Certified Firearms Specialist

I tested the Umarex SA10 pistol. It's not the best I've ever used, but it's pretty solid. It's great for dead beer cans at 20 feet. Here are my two cents.

HIGHLIGHT:

The blowback action is totally realistic.

PISTOL DESIGN:

I am not sure what Umarex was going for with this .177 caliber air gun. The trigger guard is great for shooting with gloves on, and I use it to show the value of this during colder seasons here in Utah. The barrel looks like a threaded barrel for mounting a suppressor. However, it extends a bit farther than I initially expected. I can tell everyone that this thing works like a typical Umarex air gun, and I like it.

SLIDE DESIGN:

One thing I like about the SA10 (and some other air pistols I own) is the removable slide. It makes it easier to clean or check for things not going well. The slide is cut away to show off the gold finish on the barrel, and the gun looks very cool.

ROTARY MAGAZINE:

The hang-up with this air gun is the use of the rotary magazine. So what I did was, I stopped using it (the rotary magazine), and I switched to single-loading pellets, and it works great.

ACCURACY:

The pistol is accurate with pellets. I mean, it's as precise as an air pistol can be for dead beer cans at 20 feet, and that's good to me.

CO2 PERFORMANCE:

The power from the CO2 is excellent for this pistol. After the pistol sat on the patio furniture for two days, I cleaned the yard for the grandkids' visit, picked up the Umarex, loaded a pellet, and shot it at my rotating target. It still had pressure, and there was lots of it.

WHO IT'S FOR:

Is this air pistol a good choice for you? It really depends on your skill level. The Umarex SA10 is decent for most people, and ideal for beginners. It's a pretty solid choice for the money - especially if you're new to air guns - just don't expect any miracles. You get what you pay for in this case.
