A friend of mine recommended these cheap muffs by Walker's. I put them to the test and was impressed with their performance.

Walker's - Razor Slim Electronic Muffs

HIGHLIGHT:
Walkie Talkie add-on for teaching classes on the range.
RANGE TRAINING:
I love these shooting muffs. I have an entire case of them, which I take to the range to teach classes. I use the accessory walkie-talkie radio on each headset to talk directly to students. This is the only way to improve electronic hearing protection.
COMMUNICATION BENEFITS:
With radio communication ability, the background noises are gone, and only range commands are in shooters' ears. If there is a problem, the shooter lowers the chin mic, and all they have to do is talk, and everyone on the line hears what is happening.
RANGE ISSUES:
I have had some shooting students tell me they get radio interference at times. For those shooters, they turned off the radio just in case we were getting some overlap, and they still reported the interference. This happens very infrequently and at different ranges. I don't have an answer for this, as one shooter out of ten has this happen at the same place and time as everyone else. My set does not have this issue.
INCLUDED BATTERIES:
These muffs came with their own batteries, which was super convenient and an extra touch I appreciated. Duracell batteries, too. In other words, the not cheap kind haha. So that alone tells you something about the quality of these. If the batteries are gonna last long, then so are the headphones. That was my first impression, at least.
HEARING PROTECTION:
Now, to talk about the hearing protection ability. Walker's have the same level of hearing protection in the slim muffs as all the rest have in the regular-size muffs. The noise cancellation activated only when it was needed. They handled a wide range of weaponry, which is convenient since I own numerous guns. You can even hear background noises which was a nice plus.
COMFORT:
Comfort is a big plus, too. These muffs were comfortable enough that I honestly forgot I had them on. I liked how stylish they looked, too. It's what I like to call, 'cool comfort'.
FOLDABILITY:
They fold super compactly, fitting easily into my range bag, making it great for travel and camping.
WEIGHT:
Another thing about the slim earmuffs is that they weigh less than the rest. Not much less, but if a shooter has neck issues, these may be a difference-maker.
WIND FEEDBACK:
I recently used them on a hunting trip and I was very impressed as well. They were comfortable, effective, and they did the job they were meant to. When it was super windy, I did get some blow back from outside, but it wasn’t too bad, and that’s to be expected.
GEL PADS:
I know that some reviewers mentioned a gel pad you can get to add the comfort level. That's what I did too. I wear glasses, and to alleviate the ear shell punishment from getting pushed over my glasses' hair pieces all day, the gel pads help out a ton.
OVERALL:
If you're still struggling to make a decision and want to see how these Walkers rank among other picks, visit my main Shooting Ear Protection review list. But these muffs really do a good job in an indoor range, as well as when I'm out hunting. I mean, I can hear convos with them on. So, I think they could be a great addition to someone's shooting gear, if that someone is looking for something affordable and effective. There are better, more expensive options on the market, but think about it - these muffs work to 22db, just like a lot of other ear protection, only at a much lower price.
